SANTA FE — The Children, Youth & Families Department will host a virtual Indian Child Welfare Act Summit on October 13, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The summit will review the current state of the Indian Child Welfare Act of 1978 (ICWA) in New Mexico, plans to improve compliance with the Act, stories of lived experience, and a presentation by Mr. Bert Hirsch, one of the original authors of the Act. Attendees will also be updated on the Kevin S. Settlement, which directly benefits Indian children and families.
