New Mexico Legislators on the majority-Democrat side celebrated big wins after the 2019 60-day session adjourned Saturday.
Tom Trowbridge reports from the Roundhouse:
At noon on Saturday, the New Mexico Legislature adjourned, “Sine Die” as the Latin phrase goes, meaning without any future date designated.
And shortly after the 54th New Mexico Legislature’s proceedings ended until 2020—an election year when every New Mexico lawmaker’s seat will be up for voters to decide—Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham was in an upbeat, if not exhausted mode.
During a post-session fourth-floor news conference with her cabinet members proudly standing behind her—the newly-inaugurated Democrat said, quote: “This is a celebration.”
After her listing a litany of accomplishments, I asked the Governor to recount any disappointments during the past 60-days:
Even a cautious Republican Senate Minority Caucus Chair, Steve Neville said, quote: “We passed a lot of valuable legislation some I did not agree with. But overall, we had a decent session.”
