The 2024 New Mexico Legislative Session officially kicked off at Noon on Tuesday at the State Capitol in Santa Fe. The hustle and bustle included legislators, lobbyists, staff, friends and family members filling the chambers and the hallways of the roundhouse.

During a Joint Session of the House of Representatives and the State Senate, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, who was surrounded by her family, delivered her 2024 State of the State address within the House Chambers.

She opened her address thanking her fellow New Mexicans for their “willingness to think big and act boldly to address the challenges” New Mexico faces. She noted that when she became governor in 2019 she promised to lay a strong foundation for economic prosperity and was proud to report that “New Mexico has the highest number of jobs in its history.”

The Governor stated that New Mexico added “110,000 jobs in the past 3 and half years.”

She laid out requests designed to spur continued economic activity including 500 million dollars in Severance Tax Bond to create a Strategic Water Supply, 170 million dollars to move forward advanced energy sources. Additionally, the Governor announced her intent to pursue an advanced manufacturing tax credit to make New Mexico even more competitive in reshoring global companies that the Governor believes will solidify a clean technology supply chain right here in New Mexico..
